Update : the End to 2015 and challenges ahead for 2016

December 31, 2015 1:00 PM

My website has been short of articles through 2015 partly because I've not been as proficient as I should have been and therefore I want to summarise the year in brief and the challenges ahead for 2016.

The last content update was when I was selected to be the Liberal Democrat Candidate for Vauxhall at the 2015 General Election. That was confirmed on November 27th 2014- however my campaign got off to a far more notable start when on Monday 30th March 2015, I became the first ever openly HIV+ candidate at a UK general Election. The story hit most radio, television and newspapers from around the world after completing the interview with Buzzfeed - see link http://www.buzzfeed.com/patrickstrudwick/meet-britains-first-hiv-positive-parliamentary-candidate#.invDLZ88R

Along with fighting a local Council by-election on the same day - Thursday 7th May was quite a traumatic day - getting a very good result in the local election -2nd place with 1,751 votes - more than four times than the previous vote in Princes Ward and with over 3,300 votes in the General Election - 6.9% vote and saving my deposit which was one of the top 15 results across London's 73 constituencies on a very difficult night for the Liberal Democrat Party, I had achieved a result which was commendable and happy to have to ignited a campaign to further higlight issues of stigma, mental health, drug and sex addiction (chemsex) and to be able to support the LGBT+ community going forward.

With that in mind, I put myself forward for the London Greater Assembly List for May's 2016 elections and delighted to be selected at No.10 to be part of Caroline Pidgeon's London Liberal Democrat team for the campaign and you can follow all the news and updates at - www.londonlibdems.org.uk I'm also the constituency link to both Merton & Wandsworth and Bromley & Bexley both of which yet to have constituency candidates selected. https://www.facebook.com/adrianhyyrylainentrettllondonlistassembly/

Locally, within Lambeth I am getting myself involved in local projects and looking forward to give some of my time to our Peabody Estate Tenant and Residents Association, along with now becoming Equality Spokesperson for Lambeth Liberal Democrats - see website http://lambethlibdems.org.uk/en/ and of course remain Secretary of Vauxhall Liberal Democrats

The second challenge ahead will be to Chair LGBT+ Liberal Democrat group for the second time in 2016. I have been asked by the Executive to return to a post to continue our campaigning work and new year updates will follow shortly. The website link is http://lgbt.libdems.org.uk/en/

The third challenge will be regarding the expected EU referendum with an anticipated date of June 23rd 2016 - the campaign will be immediate in the New year and as Vice Chair of LDEG (Liberal Democrat European Group) - this will be one of those most critical political decisions of a generation. Further to the above, I will continue my work as the Sports representative on the Pride In London Community Advisory Board http://dev.prideinlondon.org/about-us/community-advisory-board and also working as an advisor to the Metropolitan Police LGBT Advisory Group - http://www.lgbtag.org.uk and working with Liberal International Bodies, Liberals for Equality etc http://www.aldeparty.eu/en/news/liberals-4-equality-meet-hague-plan-next-steps , http://www.liberal-international.org/site/
