LGBT+ Liberal Democrats commemorate Transgender Day of Remembrance

Today we mark Transgender Day of Remembrance. LGBT+ Lib Dems condemn all violence, but particularly and especially today the violence that takes so many innocent trans people from us before their time.

It is the 20th year of TDoR this year, and LGBT+ LDs extend our love and sorrow to all the people on this year's list, their friends, families and loved ones, and the lists for all the previous 19 years too.

Jennie Rigg, Chair of LGBT+ LDs said: "In 2017 it's tempting to believe that the struggle is won. One glance at the newspapers over the last few months would illustrate the flaw in that temptation. Our trans siblings are continually vilified; denounced by every columnist from Rod Liddle to Sarah Ditum, and told they are protorapists, frauds, and threats to children. We cis people must stand up to defend our trans siblings against this onslaught, so that one year TDoR's list of trans people who have died from anti-trans violence refers only to historic deaths and not to deaths that year. I hope that time comes sooner rather than later."
