History Talk for IDAHOBIT

This year as part of marking International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia we will be having a history talk.
We can only understand where we are now in LGBT liberation through understanding where we have been, and there are striking parallels between the battles of the past and the present.
Veteran LGBT+ rights campaigner and current Honorary Patron of LGBT+ Lib Dems Bernard Greaves will be talking about gay life and activism in the 1960s and 1970s.
This includes the first ever political party conference meeting on gay rights (as it was then termed) at the Liberal Assembly, how the Liberals became the first party to back a comprehensive equality platform for gay rights in the 1970s, and how the party set about an education project to help members understand why gay rights was an inherently liberal value.
Bernard will be interviewed for a Zoom audience by our Vice President, Jen Yockney MBE.
All members welcome. We are holding the talk on 16th May to avoid clashing with in-person events on the 17th itself.
